What are Dentures?
Dentures are removable prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth and restore oral function and aesthetics. They come in two main types: complete dentures, which replace all teeth in the upper or lower jaw & partial dentures, which fill gaps when some natural teeth remain.
Made from materials such as acrylic resin and sometimes incorporating metal, dentures are custom-fitted to the individual’s mouth for comfort and stability.
Types of Dentures?
- Complete Dentures: These dentures replace all the teeth in either the upper or lower jaw. They are ideal for individuals who have lost all their natural teeth due to factors like decay, gum disease, or injury.
- Partial Dentures: Used when some natural teeth remain, partial dentures fill gaps created by missing teeth, preventing remaining teeth from shifting. It consists of a gum-colored base with artificial teeth attached & are often secured with metal clasps
- Implant-Supported Dentures: These dentures are anchored to dental implants surgically placed in the jawbone. Unlike traditional dentures, which rest on the gums, implant-supported dentures provide greater stability and support.
Benefits of Dentures?
- Improved Chewing Ability: Dentures restore the ability to chew food effectively, enhancing nutrition and overall diet.
- Enhanced Speech: They help improve pronunciation and clarity of speech, which can be affected by missing teeth.
- Aesthetic Restoration: Dentures fill out the facial features & provide a natural-looking smile & boosts confidence.
